Historian Cadbury retells the tragic story of Louis-Charles, who was imprisoned at age eight following the execution of his father, King Louis XVI, in 1793. Though heir to the throne, Louis-Charles was imprisoned, treated horribly, and supposedly died in prison. Yet legends persisted that he had escaped, and many pretenders to the throne came forward.
